Five Things I Want You to Know

  1. Hold Onto the LightThe Hold Onto the Light campaign has started for another year. For those of you that don’t know about the campaign, it’s Science Fiction/Fantasy authors and fans speaking out about Mental Health awareness. I’ve written a post or two for the campaign and I think that it’s something that we all need to be talking about.

#HoldOnToTheLight is a blog campaign encompassing blog posts by more than 100 fantasy and science fiction authors around the world in an effort to raise awareness around treatment for depression, suicide prevention, domestic violence intervention, PTSD initiatives, bullying prevention and other mental health-related issues. We believe fandom should be supportive, welcoming and inclusive, in the long tradition of fandom taking care of its own. We encourage readers and fans to seek the help they or their loved ones need without shame or embarrassment.

Please consider donating to or volunteering for organizations dedicated to treatment and prevention such as: American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Hope for the Warriors (PTSD), National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), Canadian Mental Health Association, MIND (UK), SANE (UK), BeyondBlue (Australia), To Write Love On Her Arms and the National Suicide Prevention Hotline.

2. Friday Fess-Up

I’ve been wanting to post more often on the blog, so I’m going to start a series of posts, beginning next Friday, to let you know what I’ve been working on – or haven’t been working on – as it were. This is going to be an honest, non-embellished look into what I’m doing and how I’m doing it. Here’s a preview:

What I’m working on: Jade Moon Waning (working title)

The Elevator Pitch is still cooking so, for now, all you get is the title.

I’ve got an outline done and I’m working on my characters.

This week was rough, though not without progress. Wednesday and Thursday were back to back 12 hour days and sleep is still a thing, so I didn’t get much writing done on Thursday and Friday.

And I’ve been playing catch-up this weekend, so I haven’t done a darn thing.

Say…that leads me to the next thing I want you to know.

3. Most days it’s all about the writing. It’s OK for a day to be all about the Writer.

Yeah…I don’t have much more to add to that.

4. The more things you’re juggling on a Sunday morning, the more likely it is for your dog to want to play, be let out, etc.

Bonus dog points when, after you get outside, they look at you like it was your idea to come out.

5. Whatever you’re working on, be it drafting, or revisions, or outlining…

I want you to know: You got this.
