Friday Fess-Up: May 18th

Happy Friday Y’All!  We made it!

Welcome to the Penultimate Friday Fess-Up for May. I look back on the year and wonder how the hell we’re nearly halfway through 2018 already.

I confess that it’s been kind of a slow week for words.  Not such a slow week for story, but definitely a slow week for words.

Part – ok, most – of that is on the day job. Over the past two days, I’ve actually put in enough hours to float three days.

Like it usually does, the first thing to take the hit is the writing time. So I’m reduced to trying to work it in when I can.

I also confess to not making sleep as much of a priority as it needed to be, which had farther reaching consequences. I did get work done, but I got it done longhand over those two days.

I enjoy working longhand, despite having a set of wrists that are a massive pile of rubbish. You’d think that I was exaggerating, but I’m not. Usually after about 15 minutes, I’ll lose the feeling in my fingers. Totally numb.

I did hear that a fountain pen helped one of my writer friends with her wrists, but I suspect that she was trying to convert me.

So, yeah, slow week for words. Not so much for story.

One of the things I enjoy about working longhand is that it can spark ideas while I’m working. Sure that’ll happen while I’m typing, but I type faster than I can write – at least and be able to read it afterward – so the spark has a greater chance to catch something and set it alight. While I was scribbling down stuff where I could, I had a couple of ideas about the project that I’m working on.

And I got a new character. Someone that hadn’t existed until that moment. How cool is that?

Despite the coolness, I was paying for it today. Since I put in back to back 12 hour days, I was able to comp the entire day today. I slept in (kinda) and, later on, I sat down to write and my brain just wasn’t there. I probably should have taken a nap or something to recharge, but I’ll start paying of that sleep deficit tonight.

So the plan for the rest of the week is to keep on pace and not stretch myself. I’ve got Balticon coming up next week and a bunch of stuff to schedule ahead of time.

Speaking of scheduling, check out the Events page to find out where I’m going to be at Balticon. If you’re in the area, swing by, I’d love to meet you. It’s going to be a great time!

Be sure to check out the Freebies page for Story Excerpts, and be sure to stop by on Sunday for the usual post.

Until then…

Be safe Y’All
