Wrapping up Women’s History Month

This is the last day of March. It is also the last day of Women’s History Month.

Before I go any farther, I’d like to point you in the direction of the SyFy Fangirrls website.

Every day for the entire month, they have been shining the spotlight on the Forgotten Women of Genre – women like Dorothy Woolfolk, who worked as an editor at DC comics back in the late 1940’s. She introduced a little thing into the Superman Canon called: Kryptonite.

I’ve been listening all month. Some of these women, I was aware of, most of them I wasn’t. I need to do better about that.

What I’d like to do today is to list the Women of Genre that inspire me. This list is in no particular order, and it is far from complete.

Might just be that you’ll find someone here that inspires you too.

Faith Hunter

Gail Z Martin

Kameron Hurley

Brie Larson

Cher Martinetti

Pretti Chhibber

Courtney Enlow

Kalayna Price

Sherrilyn Kenyon

Kim Harrison

Alex Hughes

Janet Walden-West

Karen Osborne

Mur Lafferty

Carrie Fisher

Delilah S Dawson

This list is one that I came up with in under five minutes, off the top of my head, and I’m pretty damned fortunate that the list is as long as it is.

No such list would be complete without the inclusion of two other names. They don’t work in the Genre Field, but they inspire me all the same.

They would be my wife, Rachel, and my daughter, Haley, who inspire me on a daily basis.

See you on Thursday!
