I’ve never done this before, but this year has been full of all kinds of firsts, so why not try something new, right?
For the first time, I’m working on two projects at the same time.
For those of you who know me, this is going to come as a bit of a surprise. For those of you that don’t know me, I am a linear writer. So much so that if I get stuck on something, I’m stopped until I figure out my way through it. Working on more than one project is something of a massive departure for me and I’m having mixed feeling about it.
On one hand, I can see how it could be a useful skill to have. Developing the flexibility to switch projects without needing a lot of time to get into a particular headspace can be invaluable.
On the other hand, the feeling of something left undone is present, like a stone in your shoe. You might not always feel it, but it’s there and you’ll feel it soon enough.
There’s a part of me that’s worried that I’ll lose my grip on the story that I’m not working on at the minute – whichever one that is.
I’m adjusting to it by keeping reminders of each story around, and so far that’s working.
Now, the second project is of shorter length than the first – a Novella, rather than a full Novel. I don’t know if the difference in length makes it easier to manage. Might be that it’s just a matter of scale. I don’t know if I can juggle two novels at a time. One day I might be keen to give it a shot.
Thanks for reading.
Be safe out there. Be Excellent to Each other.
I’ll see you on Thursday.
