Assessments

So…it’s been a little quiet here on the blog as of late. I don’t think I can point the finger at any one thing. I think it’s been a combination of things over the course of the past month or so. A little bit of this, a dash of that, and another week goes by.

After rereading that, I feel like I’m making it sound like it’s all been bad or troubling things that have sapped my energy to post – or prevented me from posting all together. It hasn’t been like that. I spent the latter half of October travelling – which was a real good time – I’ve seen things I’ve never seen before and been made to feel small in the best of ways, which can’t help but cause a shift in perspective, an opportunity to look at things differently.

Which brings me to the title of this post. To begin with, I don’t think you can travel for a good length of time (say two weeks) and not return changed in some way. On top of that, I had to recover from not one, but two time changes, which took a few days, all the while processing the things I saw, and experienced, and felt while I was away.

Then there was the election.

I won’t get into how many drafts of posts talking about the events of November 5th surfaced and submerged – for the better. But I felt like I had to say something, if only to get it out of my head to make room for other thoughts. I promise to be brief.

America…I’m disappointed with you. Your standards have dropped so low that, to find them again, you’re going to need a compass and a shovel.

That should do it. I know it doesn’t sound like much, but still waters run deep. I was in an introspective mood to begin with, upon my return, so I’m going to take some time to look into my life, and the world around me, and decide what’s important to me (and who) that I want to keep around and what I’m going to discard.

I’m excited about and, truth be told, a little apprehensive of, the work ahead but I think it’s time. For most others, Springtime is a time to clean house and make improvements but for me, it’s always been Autumn. The scent of change is in the air and, as Gandalf says: When in doubt, follow your nose.

Let’s see what we find.

Thanks for reading. Be safe out there. Be Excellent to Each other – and yourself.

I’ll see you on Thursday.
