Make it a Habit

Feed your soul.

I didn’t realize this until just a few moments ago, but it might not be coincidence that I’m talking about feeding yourself while we’re closing in on Thanksgiving here in the US. We’re starting to roll into a time of the year where there’s this unique blend of frenetic activity while, at the same time, things are starting to wind down, towards the turn of the year.

This is also the time of the year when days can kind of blend one into the other and, to paraphrase The Lord of the Rings, some things that should not have been forgotten get put on the back burner.

Now, more than any other time of the year, it’s time for a reminder to not neglect yourself while you’re making preparations for taking care of others. As the saying goes, you can’t pour from an empty cup.

Do something for yourself, that really refills your well. Now I’m going to suggest something radical.

Do it tomorrow too.

And the day after that. And the day after that…

Whatever it is that restores you, do it daily.

Make it a habit, put it in your calendar if you need to, set a reminder. Do this so you don’t have to “Make the Time” to take care of what should, arguably, be one of your highest priorities. The Time will already exist.

String a couple of days together. See how far you can get.

Thanks for reading. Be safe out there. Be Excellent to Each other – and yourself.

I’ll see you on Thursday.
