Five Thing Thursday: June 28th – The Podcast Edition!

Happy Thursday, Everyone!!

Nearly missed this one. The past couple of days have been a little busy here, but we made it.

This is the first part of a two-part Five Things post*.

I love podcasts. When I’m driving, I’ll put them on the sound system in the truck and just go. When I run out of podcasts, I’ll switch to audio books, and let the podcasts build up, and, when the book is done, I’ll go back to the podcasts.**

Here are Five Things (Podcasts) that I want you to know:

Thing #1: The 88 Cups of Tea Podcast

This was a recent find for me, and I’m gradually working my way through the back episodes. It’s geared towards writers, but could easily be applied to any kind of creative life.

Thing #2: The Alice Isn’t Dead Podcast

Big Surprise: Alice isn’t dead.

Created by the same folks that brought you “Welcome to Nightvale,” Alice isn’t dead quickly outstripped that show for me. This one is pure entertainment, and the writing is both beautiful at times, and haunting.

Thing #3: Ditch Diggers, and I Should be Writing

Two things? Yes, I know that this one Thing is actually Two separate Podcasts, but that’s kinda the way that podcasts work. You’ll start out listening to one then, before you know it, you’re subscribed to 9 or 10.

In my opinion, you *Cannot* talk about Podcasts without talking about Mur Lafferty. I’ve been listening to her for years and I’ve even had the chance to meet her a couple of times.

Both podcasts are writing related. I Should be Writing is geared toward the beginning writer, and is a clean podcast.

Ditch Diggers is for the blue collar professionals that work in the writing business. Mur and her Co-Host Matt Wallace don’t pull any punches – even with the language.

If you’re interested in making a career out of writing, do yourself a favor and put these in your ears.

Thing#4: The Ink and Brain Monsters Podcast

Mental Health is extremely important and many creatives (Myself included) deal with depression, anxiety, and a whole host of other struggles that can make what should be a joy into a slog, if you’ve even got the spoons left to do it at all.

Andi talks to creatives in a wide range of fields about managing health, struggles and triumphs. The conversations bring Mental Health into the light and remind us all that we’re not alone with our monsters.

Thing #5: The Strong Female Characters Podcast

Speak Geek like a Girl!

I don’t know what else I can add to that. The hosts discuss the biggest news and goings on for female fandom, dissect oft used tropes, talk representation in media and laugh. A lot.

“This is the podcast you’ve been looking for…”

###

So I wasn’t kidding about the blink and you’ve gone and subscribed to 10 different podcasts thing. The five here are presented in no, particular, order and I’ve got 5 more waiting to meet you next week.

Be sure to stop by the Freebies page for story Excerpts

And be sure to stop by for the Friday Fess-Up post.

Until then,

Be Safe Y’All!

*Why didn’t I do a 10 things post? First, “Ten Thing Thursday” kinda messes with the alliteration. Second, and most important, I might be tempted keep going with the ten things, which would mean double the work, and I’ve only got so much time…

**The one exception I make to this rule is with The Rugby Pod Podcast (More on that in the second installment). I will even interrupt a book in progress for the Rugby Pod.
