Power Loss and the Magic Generator

As you might recall from my last Five-Thing Thursday post, earlier this week, we broke down under the heat and humidity typical for a Michigan summer and turned on the AC.

Promptly there was a massive storm that knocked out the power Thursday Morning.

As I am composing this late on a Saturday night, it only just now came back on.

Around here, no power means no water, so I am – as I am sure that all of the people I’ll encounter in the near future are – particularly happy about this.

“But,” you may be asking, “You’ve got this Magic Generator you mention in the title. What’s the big deal?”

The concept of a Magical Generator aside, Up until earlier this evening I didn’t have a generator at all, magical or otherwise.

A friend of ours offered us hers – it had been living rent-free in her garage for several years now, so we jumped at the offer, despite the hour drive (one way) to go get it.

As an aside, we also got a splendid steak dinner.

So we took the generator, loaded it up in the truck and, after filling some 5 gallon plastic jugs, we headed home.

When we got back to the Forge, the power was back on.

Now get this:

The generator in question has, to hear the tale, never actually provided power to anyone. As our friend tells it, she and her husband picked it up, brought it home, set it up , and just before they turned it on…the power came back on.

They hadn’t used it since.

So we are in possession of a Magical Generator, and are benefiting from it’s unique enchantment, until a needy soul approaches us whereupon we’ll know that its time with us is over.

Thanks for reading.

Be safe out there. Be Excellent to Each other – and yourself.

I’ll see you on Thursday.
