Can we talk about social media for a moment?
Lately – ok, it can be argued that this has been going on for a long time, but I’ve felt a shift in myself and maybe you have too – social media (certain sites anyway) has become the place I’d go when I want to get pissed off about things that are happening far, far away, about which I can do very little – if anything.
It wasn’t always like that, and I’d like to talk about a way that we might collectively be able to change that.
Start talking about things that bring you joy. Flood your timelines with awesome and starve the hideous stuff of oxygen, so they’ll whither.
This may mean curating your feed more heavily, snoozing folk who only want to repost the awful stuff. It also means that you might wind up looking for delights more than you might have been – which I’d call a good thing. You find what you’re looking for, so why not look for things that make you happy. Even better, share that happiness with others. You might find a kindred spirit you never knew about or you might be the catalyst for someone else’s discovery of awesome stuff.
If we all do that – as often as we can – we can’t help but make the world a better place.
I’ll start:
Two weeks ago, I didn’t know about the band Roadwolf. Ever since then, they’ve been on the regular playlist – I’m listening to them right now – and they’ve been bringing me joy. Give them a listen, might be they do the same for you.
Go forth and find your joy. Then tell us all about it.
Thanks for reading. Be safe out there. Be Excellent to Each other – and yourself.
I’ll see you on Thursday.
