Pouring from an Empty Cup

You can’t do it. Thanks for reading, I’ll see you on–

*Record scraaaatch*

Ok, maybe I could put a finer point on it than that. To do that however, I’m going to ask you, Reader, to take a closer look at a socially negative concept and consider changing your mind about it. Ready for the concept? Here comes:

Selfishness

The Primary definition (According to The Book of Web) of selfish is:  concerned excessively or exclusively with oneself seeking or concentrating on one’s own advantage, pleasure, or well-being without regard for others

There are loads of stories out there decrying selfishness in all it’s forms, but consider:

Exercise is a form of selfishness. As are most kinds of self-care. Speaking of which, if you’ve ever been on a plane, you’ve seen those safety demonstrations where you’re told that if the airbags drop from overhead, you should put yours on first, before helping others. Arguably selfish. But if you help someone else with their bag first, you might be able to save them, sure. But if you put your own bag on first, you can then potentially save the entire plane (yes…the tubes probably aren’t that long, but you get the point).

Like the title says, You can’t pour from an empty cup. You can’t give when you’ve got nothing left, so take care of yourself first.

Thanks for reading. Be safe out there. Be Excellent to Each other – and yourself.

I’ll see you on Thursday.
