The title of today’s post is a little bit of a misnomer, as it’s going live on Sunday which would, in fact, be the last day of ConFusion 2024 and I’m drafting this post on Friday afternoon, some few hour before any actual programming begins.
I’m doing this for two reasons: The First, is because I’m trying to keep myself organized and on top of my daily, and weekly schedules. It’s work, but much better than trying to come up with something on the day the post is supposed to go live.
Second, and no less – perhaps even more – true…is that I’m more than a little anxious. The last Con I attended was back in May of last year. Before that…well let’s just say that it’s been a minute and those social muscles had already begun to atrophy a bit.
It would be easy to hole up here in the hotel room, only coming out to eat, and when it was time to sit on a panel. I could dress it up as using this time to be productive. I could be writing (Which I have been doing, though not nearly enough to fill the entire day). I could be getting ahead of The Blog (Which I’m doing now), I could be critiquing, beta reading, reading for myself, practicing my Welsh, playing a game, watching Rugby, I’m sure I could put together a list of a hundred things to do other than getting out there and socializing.
But what would be the point of even coming to these things? I’d meant what I’d in the last Five-Thing Thursday post. I really do want to reconnect with the Writing Community. The trick is that I’ve actually got to get out of the room and go reconnect.
Which is exactly what I’m going to go do in a few minutes, but I want to say one last thing: Every day, I pick up a Tarot deck to get a sort of inspiration as to an aspect of life to keep in mind, or appreciate. Maybe it’s a coincidence that today’s (Well, Friday’s) card was The Fool, whose message is that every dream begins with a single step – a leap of faith – into the unknown.
Or maybe it wasn’t.
Either way, I’ve reached the end of this post, and I’m going to get out there and reconnect with folk.
Thanks for reading. Be safe out there. Be Excellent to Each other – and yourself.
I’ll see you on Thursday.
