There are two times of the year when I get really introspective. I mean the mood can come on at any time really, but those two times of the year really flip that switch. The first is the New Year. For me, it’s natural to look back and reflect, and also to look forward and plan, right on the cusp of a brand new year.
The other time, is around my Birthday which, as it turns out is just on the opposite side of the wheel of the year, so I can look back at the intentions I started out with in January and compare that to where I’m at now.
There’s always course correction.
If you’ve been following the blog lately (Thanks!) you’ll know that things have been a little hectic lately So, not only am I spending the next four weeks reflecting on where I’m at this year, and where I’ve come from, but I also need to stop and figure out how I can rest up, regather and protect my energy.
At first, I was going to drop all the heavy lifting on Morpheus’s shoulders. Sleep is important – crucial even – but there are complimentary priorities that make up the trifecta: Nutrition and Mental Health.
Now I’m combining a bunch of other things in with these three – primarily, and this may surprise some of you, because I don’t want to create a list in the middle of this post.
I know, right?
In with sleep, I’m also including things like rest because you can’t train all the time. Nutrition also includes meal planning, developing an understanding around food and your relationship with it. Mental Health, for me anyway, includes things like exercise, adjusting your habits to include more of the things that bolster your energy (both Physical and Mental) while reducing the things that sap you and drain you dry. it also includes time dedicated to “Me” where I give myself permission to not work. To do the things I enjoy – guilt free. This is not something selfish. This is investing in you and that’s always worth it.
This is not something that’s going to get done in a day. It might not even be done in a month, though I suspect that by August 1st, I’ll have laid some pretty good groundwork to build on. Remember: It’s the little things you do consistently that get you to where you need to go.
Thanks for reading. Be safe out there. Be Excellent to Each other – and yourself.
I’ll see you on Thursday.
