As you may be able to tell from the title of this post, I am no longer editing JADE MOON WANING!!
I took advantage of a couple of cold-weather closures at the day job and I managed to make it to the end of the book.
I sent it out to my Agent, and CPs last Thursday.
So…Now what?
Right away, I’m working on pitches for the book. These will be of varying lengths ranging from a quick 15 second bit, that I could use in an elevator as it passes between floors, to something a bit more in depth (but not overpowering – I’m not looking to get into a monologue here) that I could use when I’ve got more time and want to get into a bit of detail.
Additionally, I am working on a one-page synopsis of the story. Yes, I’ve got to squeeze all 500-plus pages into a single page description of the story from beginning to end.
It’s a skill, and an art, and I struggle with it. There are various techniques to it and I’m going to be trying a few new ones out this time around as we’ll see how it goes.
If that weren’t enough, I’m also looking at comparable titles. These would be books that are similar to JADE MOON WANING. It’s good to have this list for a couple of reasons, not the least of which is that it acts like a kind of shorthand for what the book is about, where you might find it on the shelves, etc. It’s also handy to have if you’re looking for someone to blurb the book.
After that…
I don’t know. It really depends on how long it takes for feedback to get to me. Revisions, naturally, have the priority, so do I want to work on a short story – something that I can disengage from with minimum fuss?
Or do I want to get to work on the novel for 2019 – and keep up with my “One Book a Year” pace?
There’s still time to decide.
