Prioritization. Flexibility. And Music.
This past week was the third week in my month of “Rest.” And it was pretty busy. Sometimes like is like that. Things come up and knock heads with your carefully planned day. I used to find that pretty stressful – ok, that makes it sound like I don’t find it stressful at all now, and that’s certainly not true. But I’m starting to change the way I think about such things.
First is to remind myself that this isn’t forever. It’s just a single day. If I can’t do anything about this interruption in my plans, I need to look at the plan and make some choices about what I want to get done and what can wait. Priorities. Do what you can in order of importance.
That requires some flexibility – at least it does for me – because I tend to push back, and procrastinate, and stall which doesn’t do anything for me but waste time – kind of, I am never more productive around the house than when I’m putting off doing something I’d rather not do. Being flexible enough to change course and get that thing done, so I can get back on track is difficult for me, but it’s a necessary skill.
And Music. This has been a week of music and let me tell you that nothing greases the skids for me like music. It keeps me focused, keeps me in the moment, and it’s something I really enjoy. Music does a lot of heavy lifting for me.
And those things that got put on the back burner. They aren’t trivial, and I get back to them when I done with the other stuff. Maybe I don’t have as much time to dedicate to those things as I’d like, but even a small step forward is still a step forward.
And tomorrow is another day.
Thanks for reading. Be safe out there. Be Excellent to Each other – and yourself.
I’ll see you on Thursday.
