Are You Listening?

If you’ve been reading the blog recently – and if you have, thanks! You’ll have seen on Thursday that I was in the hospital quite recently.

When this post goes live, I will have been home for three days now. That’s three days of rediscovering the edges of what I’m able to do and what I’ve got to work back to.

Putting on socks is a sometimes dubious prospect, and apparently, I’m someone who takes naps in the middle of the day.

And that’s fine.

“Listen to your body,” is something that I am constantly repeating to myself and I am both amazed by how simply accurate it is, and kinda irritated with myself that it takes something like this to sound the reminder loud enough to hear it.

Ok, maybe that’s a bit harsh. There are things that I’ve learned to absolutely pay attention to.

But it’s not far off the mark.

I’ve ignored little twinges and pains that could very well have developed into something worse. I’ve neglected warm-up sessions, or cool down sessions.

I’ve ignored signs that I need to rest, pressed on based on nothing more than “Well you did it Yesterday.”

That’s not good enough anymore – if it was ever any good.

As I spend the next several weeks (I’m off my feet for the next six) gradually working my way back to health, I’m going to listen to what I’m telling myself – both physically and mentally.

I’ll continue to challenge myself, but I’m also going to commit to doing it purposefully and intentionally.

Thanks for reading.

Be safe out there. Be Excellent to Each other – and yourself.

I’ll see you on Thursday.
